Your Weight Loss Surgeons
Choosing the right operation matters more than choosing the newest one. Our surgeons perform the sleeve, the standard and mini bypass, SADI and revision surgery, so the advice you get is not limited to one procedure. Two of them are in the theatre for every operation, supported by a physician, dietitians, a psychologist, an exercise professional and nurses. Together they have looked after more than 4,000 patients since 1984.

Introduction
Welcome to LapSurgery Australia. Learn about our comprehensive approach to weight loss surgery and how we have been helping patients transform their lives for over 40 years.
Which Operation Is Right for You?
Every option we offer, and who it suits

Sleeve Gastrectomy
The most popular bariatric procedure. Reduces stomach size by approximately 80%, leading to significant weight loss and improved health outcomes.

Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y)
Highly effective for weight loss and diabetes resolution. Creates a small stomach pouch and reroutes the digestive system for optimal results.

One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass
A modern bypass technique with a single connection point, designed to help you eat less, absorb fewer calories, and feel fuller sooner.

Mini Gastric Bypass
A simpler bypass procedure with excellent long-term weight loss outcomes and metabolic benefits, performed laparoscopically.

SADI Surgery
Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Bypass — a powerful procedure modified to reduce malnutrition risk while maximising weight loss.

Allurion Balloon
Non-surgical weight loss solution. A swallowable gastric balloon that helps you lose weight without surgery, endoscopy, or anaesthesia.

Intragastric Balloon
An endoscopically placed balloon that occupies space in the stomach, helping reduce food intake for meaningful weight loss.

Revisional Surgery
Expert revision of prior weight loss procedures including band-to-sleeve conversions and other complex secondary surgeries.

Lap-Band Surgery
Adjustable gastric banding — a reversible surgical option with over 4,000 operations performed by our team since 1998.

Non-Surgical Weight Loss
Comprehensive multidisciplinary approach including dietitian support, psychological counselling, and medical management.
Your Questions About Weight Loss Surgery, Answered
There is no single best operation, only the best one for you. The sleeve is the most common operation in Australia, is the simplest and suits most people. The bypass is usually better if you have bad reflux or type 2 diabetes and takes off a little more weight. The balloon is a temporary option with no surgery. If you have had a band or sleeve that has stopped working, revision surgery converts it. Your surgeon will recommend one after looking at your health, your weight and your goals.
With adequate private health insurance, the sleeve is $7,500 to $8,000 out of pocket, the bypass $10,000 to $13,000 and revision surgery $10,000 to $15,000. Without insurance, our self pay sleeve program is $20,500 to $22,500 for suitable patients. The Allurion balloon is $7,900. Every package covers both surgeons, the physician, the psychologist, the dietitian and the exercise professional, and you get a full written quote at your consultation.
You may be eligible from a BMI of 35, or from 30 if you also have a condition such as type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea, high cholesterol, gout or liver disease. The numbers are 32.5 and 27.5 for people of Asian descent. Use the BMI calculator on this page for a quick answer, then book a consultation to confirm.
Every operation carries some risk, such as bleeding, infection or a reaction to the anaesthetic, and each operation has its own specific risks, which we go through with you before you decide. Two surgeons at every operation, keyhole and robotic techniques and reporting to the Bariatric Safety Registry all help keep risk low. For most people with a BMI over 35, the health risks of staying at that weight are greater than the risks of surgery.
Yes. After a sleeve you take a multivitamin every day. After a bypass you also take iron, calcium and vitamin B12, because food skips part of your bowel. Our physician checks your blood tests at 6 and 12 months and then yearly, so anything low is picked up early.
No. You can book your first appointment without one. A referral is worth getting because it gives you a Medicare rebate on the consultation and some health funds ask for it, and we can help you arrange one if you do not have a GP.
We consult in Dandenong North, Berwick, Frankston, Cranbourne and Warragul, and operate in private hospitals across Melbourne’s south east. Book online, call (03) 9760 2777 or leave your details on this page.
