SADI Questions Answered by Our Surgeons

SADI stands for single anastomosis duodeno ileal bypass, usually performed with a sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S). It combines a sleeve with a single bowel join that reduces calorie absorption, making it one of the most powerful weight loss procedures available.

SADI-S is a simplified, modern version of the traditional duodenal switch, using a single join instead of two and leaving a longer length of bowel to absorb food, which reduces the risk of malnutrition the older operation carried.

SADI-S typically produces greater weight loss than a sleeve gastrectomy alone. Because long term outcome data is still limited, your surgeon will discuss realistic expectations for your situation rather than quote a universal figure.

Often, yes. SADI-S can be performed as a second stage for patients whose sleeve has not delivered or maintained the expected weight loss, because it builds on the existing sleeve rather than undoing it. Careful assessment by your surgeon comes first.

Yes. Daily multivitamins and minerals are essential for life, along with regular blood tests through our follow up program. This is the trade off for the procedure's powerful effect, and our dietitian and Specialist GP manage it with you.

No referral is needed to book a consultation. A referral entitles you to a Medicare rebate on the consultation, and we can help you arrange one.
