What the Gastric Bypass Estimate Includes
That from $7,000 figure covers a lot more than the operation itself. It includes your initial consultation with your surgeon, a pre operative assessment with a Specialist Physician, a clinical psychologist consultation, dietitian appointments before and after surgery, an exercise professional appointment, your surgeon and assistant surgeon, and access to an on call surgeon at all times. It also includes our 12 month aftercare program with ongoing support from our multidisciplinary team, and lifelong follow up continues after that.
Gastric Bypass Cost With or Without Private Health Insurance
Gastric bypass at LapSurgery Australia is performed in private hospitals across Melbourne's south east, including Mulgrave Private Hospital, Peninsula Private Hospital, St John of God Hospital in Berwick and Knox Private Hospital. Unlike our gastric sleeve, the gastric bypass does not currently have an uninsured package, so adequate private health insurance is the usual pathway. Your out of pocket cost depends on your level of cover, the hospital and the Medicare and health fund rebates that apply. It may be possible to use your superannuation to cover out of pocket costs through the compassionate release of superannuation. Our team can talk you through how that works.
Mini Gastric Bypass and Roux-en-Y: Is the Price Different?
At LapSurgery Australia we perform the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, which many surgeons regard as the gold standard obesity surgery, with 30 years of proven results. Your surgeon will advise whether a Roux-en-Y or a one anastomosis gastric bypass, sometimes called an OAGB or mini gastric bypass, suits your situation, and the price for your procedure will be confirmed at that point. Both are performed as keyhole, meaning minimally invasive, surgery by two bariatric trained surgeons.
